In a time without in-person contact, it is amazing to see how well this year’s run of Unfiltered has come together thanks to everyone who contributed. It is thanks to the members of our team who worked exceptionally on all their assigned roles and tasks in order to populate the magazine with content as well as our tutors Kim Blake and Julia Robson, that we were able to receive constructive feedback throughout the course in order to further build on our journalistic abilities. Also, a big thank you to James at Scheinfor designing the website and taking care of all the digital aspects!

WELCOME TO UNFILTERED ONLINE

Word from the Editor

Priscilla Salinas

This is Unfiltered*, an all-inclusive and in-depth publication that was built up over the span of a twelve-week Fashion Publishing and Media Relations course on the BA Fashion Marketing pathway at Regent’s University London.

The magazine was created as an outlet for students to share their findings and research across a variety of topics that piqued their interests, varying between fashion, pop culture, and other world events. From covering fashion shows and upcoming trends to broader issues being faced in an era of the COVID-19 pandemic, we were encouraged to provide nuanced and well-balanced takes from a fresh point of view. Despite not being able to carry out the work behind the magazine in person due to the ongoing pandemic that has confined us to learning from behind our computers, our team was able to come together in order to provide unique and, yes, unfiltered looks into their lives through this magazine, reporting on all the different topics that have caught their attention, no matter where in the world they happened to have been.

The World Tour of Galleries

We have missed both galleries and travelling during the global pandemic.

In an ongoing feature, Unfiltered’s Léa S takes us on a virtual tour of the world’s art galleries and their latest exhibits. Our debut issue kicks off the tour with a selection that specialises in modern and contemporary art, taking in the US and Western Europe.

The Spring exhibition at both Kingly Street and Davies Street of Sadie Coles galleries features works of Ugo Rondinone. He was, like always, inspired by nature, and subjects like horses, the sea and the sky which leads him on the path to find a spiritual meaning.

Exhibiting the work of Albert Oehlen which consists of the second part of his version of the Rothko Chapel in Houston and new paintings. Oehlen’s works include abstract, figurative and collage elements and re-challenging modern paintings, he crosses borders and limits. Coady Brown, Chance, 2021 – Oil on canvas [detail]

New exhibition of the talented Coady Brown. The first international exhibition of the artist, this new series of paintings are full of colour and full of emotions. There is a deep focus on the intimate relationships and connections of the figures she paints. The figures are a reflection of their environments and this make us wonder: how thick is the line between our private and public lives?

Our home has never been more special than today. The Galerie Kreo presents a new exhibition showing six domestic places – well thought out, curated salons, made around special vintage sofas and armchairs. These include works of Italian and French, designers and architects, like Pierre Paulin and Ico Parisi.

Contemporary makers are also invited for their iconic designs like François Bauchet, Virgil Abloh and Pierre Charpin. Paintings of Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec are also included. Galerie Kreo is also well-renowned for its vintage lighting curation and you won’t be disappointed. An exhibit full of surprises and details with a lot to discover.

Aaron Garber-Maikovska, Tiny Dancers, 2020 – Oil on Fluted Poly

Aaron Garber-Maikovska, TBC, 2021 – Video Stand, Steel, Casters, Aluminium, Oled Monitor, Battery, USB Drive

A new exhibition featuring videos and paintings of Aaron Garber-Maikovska. The paintings are strongly connected with the body, its experiences, constraints, and possibilities. As abstracts they are created with rhythmic, physical movements. We feel affirmation in the brush strokes. The movements are controlled, challenging the everyday movement we make ourselves.
